The universally known British ensemble,
The Consort of Musicke, directed by
Anthony Rooley, has signed an exclusive agreement with
Cantus in order to release around 35 recordings (many of them unpublished) made by the group in their best years, between the 80’s and 90’s. With an impressive line up of legendary names such as
Emma Kirkby, Evelyn Tubb, Paul Agnew, Mark Padmore, Simon Grant and many other great singers,
The Consort of Musicke recorded in those years, in collaboration with the
WDR, an extraordinary repertoire of the 16th and 17th centuries (mainly English and Italian music) that for various reasons could not be released on disc, or was available for a very short time in the market.
Now, in a de luxe collection directed by
José Carlos Cabello and supervised by
Anthony Rooley, with new covers, presented in digipacks and with commentaries and sung texts in four and five languages,
Cantus will make it possible for these arresting recordings to be appreciated and loved by millions of
The Consort of Musicke fans around the world. From
Walter Porter to
Cipriano de Rore, from
Angelo Notari to
Monteverdi, from
Pallavicino to
Marini, Purcell or
Eccles,
The Consort of Musicke (
a cappella or accompanied by basso continuo or violins and continuo) brings their usual technical perfection, clarity, textual transparency, magical expressiveness and exquisite stylistic knowledge to these dazzling repertoires.
