La Venexiana

For Cantus production team it was a great pleasure and a great responsibility to produce and record the first madrigal CD of a group today considered as one of the greatest ensembles specializing in the repertoire of the sixteenth century Italian madrigal. At that time, most of the members of ensemble Concerto Italiano, directed by Rinaldo Alessandrini, decided to form a new group to give their own vision of the madrigal repertoire.

That's when they founded La Venexiana, whose line-up in our first recording with them is almost legendary: Rossana Bertini, Claudio Cavina, Giuseppe Maletto, Sandro Naglia, Sergio Foresti, Fabio Bonizzoni and Paul Beier are the main architects of this exciting and beautiful CD dedicated to First Book of Madrigals of Barbara Strozzi, which was released in 1997 and marked the beginning of an era. The expressiveness, emotion and warmth of the voices, the intensity of the poetry became music and magic.
